While there are hundreds of variations of the game, all of them involve at least one round of betting. Aside from that, the rules of the game can vary widely depending on the location of the game, the number of cards involved, the number of players involved, and the cards in the deck. Generally speaking, the earliest form of the game involved 20 cards. Later, stud and draw were added, and the full 52-card deck was introduced.
